Hartley the Hare

Bred in Belgium for the so-called sport of hare coursing, this lovely little hare ended up in Henley and was spotted, scared to death, in a bag, for sale at the livestock market. His fate was certain, either for the pot or to be ripped apart by coursing dogs. Both were too awful to contemplate, so back he came to Hillfields. At first he was so terrified, he just ran amok, frenziedly running round and round and climbing the wire of his pen in great distress.

He has now learned to trust people and is happily settled in his own shed & run, sharing it with a little cockerel who is his best friend and "talking" through the fence to Gizmo the rabbit who lives next door.
