Hartley the Hare
Bred in Belgium for the so-called sport of hare coursing, this lovely little hare ended up in Henley and was spotted, scared to death, in a bag, for sale at the livestock market. His fate was certain, either for the pot or to be ripped apart by coursing dogs. Both were too awful to contemplate, so back he came to Hillfields. At first he was so terrified, he just ran amok, frenziedly running round and round and climbing the wire of his pen in great distress. |
