Midsummer Open Day 2009 - 21-06-09

The usual "Hillfields Wet Weather Curse" fortunately didn't strike this time, so supporters were able to spend some time outdoors seeing some of the animals as well as visiting the stalls & refreshments in the hall. It also meant that the Bouncy Castle was in use all day to keep the kids happy while parents browsed the stalls inside.

There was a good mix of existing supporters & some new local people who had seen our advertising and came to see what we were about. Having been delighted with the antics of the 2 resident pigs, hopefully these people might think twice next time they tuck into a bacon sarnie! The delicious vegan snacks, soups & cakes from Wendy's kitchen also demonstrated that one can enjoy lovely food without any animal cruelty.

The vegan cake stall was virtually emptied within the first 2 hours, sorry to the disappointed fans who left it too late to stock up on sweet treats. There were plenty of vegan chocs & sweets on the tombola though. This proved a popular fund raiser as all the food, toiletries & other prizes were 100% vegan, which makes a welcome change.

We did exceptionally well to raise �800 + during the day, grateful thanks to the small but dedicated band of helpers who worked tirelessly both before, during and after the event to make it such a success. It was a great atmosphere thanks to the stallholders and enthusiastic animal lovers who came to support us.
