Summer Fair & Open Day 2010 - 18-07-10

We had a very pleasant & successful event this year, and I am delighted to report that we made �1,274 for the animals, a wonderful improvement of over �400 on last year's fair. This is a huge achievement in this time of recession and belt-tightening, and it shows what a fantastic band of helpers and supporters the sanctuary has.

Thank you all, and, in particular to two generous companies - Venture Foods and Sweet Vegan who kindly donated some of their products for the day.

We managed to squeeze 15 stalls into the small hall, and all but three of these were raising money for Hillfields, so we're very grateful to all those stallholders who gave their time and skills to the cause. Two new and very welcome additions to "Team Hillfields" were Jo Goodyear selling her delectable decorated fancy cupcakes and Liz Hughes with her strawberry "cream" teas. Vegans have as much of a sweet tooth as anyone else, so these two stalls were exceptionally popular and demonstrate that a vegan lifestyle doesn't mean deprivation, one can still have naughty indulgences that involve no animal cruelty at all!

The weather was kind enough to allow visits up the track to see some of the resident animals and to chat with Lyn who knows and cares so much for every single one. She's shown holding the latest arrival, Diesel the Staffy pup, so lucky to be here instead of on Death Row in a council pound where so many thousands of Staffies sadly end up.

The above photo of the two pigs, asleep in the midst of all the visitors, sums up what we would wish for all sentient beings, safe and contented and able to lead a natural life. It also mirrors how some of us were feeling by the end of a long, hard day - but the rewards were immense! Thanks for your support and interest, Linda Newman
