Summer Open Day 2013 - 20-07-13
A big thank you to all those who attended our Summer Open Day. For once it really did feel like summer with everyone enjoying the lovely sunshine, having the chance to buy some great cruelty-free products on the numerous stalls and, of course, seeing the wonderful animals that reside at the sanctuary.
Visitors were able to browse stalls both inside and out that were selling sweets and chocolates, ready made curries, handmade cards, jams and preserves, bath bombs and soaps, books, jewellery, bric-a-brac and cakes of various types.
Despite the heat outside there was still constant queue for burgers, hot dogs and wraps as well. Here we have to say a big thank you to Fry's Vegetarian Foods who donated all of the burgers and sausages used on the day and to Asda who donated the rolls. Having generous donations from companies like this really helps enormously as it means that all of the profits from the sale of the hot food can go directly towards paying the vet's bills, food bills and other expenses at the sanctuary.
Over at the Santuary itself some of the animals opted to stay in the shade of their shelters during the afternoon, but others ventured out to greet the visitors. The antics of Doris the pig, in particular, caused great hilarity as she was seen to go bathing in a water trough to cool down, emerging spotlessly clean, before proceeding to the dung heap where she clearly revelled in getting herself filthy again.
A great Open Day then and, as ever, this is entirely due to the small band of volunteers who helped to organise the day and run the stalls. Without them there just wouldn't be an event like this for people to come to and enjoy and, more importantly, there wouldn't be the vital funds raised to keep the sanctuary running. You know who you are... on behalf of the animals, "thank you" to each and every one of you!
