Hope is only 3 weeks old and came us after her mother died and the owners were no longer able to look after her. She is currently feeding every 2-4 hours off a bottle (with special milk powder).
Normally, young foals, just like other mammals, get so much of their natural immunity to disease and infection from their mother's milk. As Hope hasn't had any of this we are having to keep a special, close eye on her. So far, after a brief scare when she developed a temperature and had to have a short course of antibiotics, she is doing well and is developing into a very cheeky little character indeed. |
